The Committee of Deans of Engineering and Technology of Nigerian Universities has asked the Federal Government to increase funding for faculties of sciences and engineering in tertiary institutions.
The Deans made the appeal on Saturday in Abuja at a meeting with the Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu.
The meeting was held to discuss how to improve and encourage the study of sciences among school children in Nigeria.
The Chairman of the Committee, Professor Emmanuel Ajav, also recommended that the government should subsidise the cost of science text books and other learning materials for students.

The Minister assured the Deans that the Federal Government would work to implement some of the suggestions which would promote the study of science and technology.
“I’ve listened attentively to all they’ve said, we would look at them and the ones we feel will be beneficial to our country and work for the common good of the nation, we would find ways to make sure that they are implemented.
“But we want to assure you that the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology will work with all Nigerians,” the Minister said.
